2 Timothy 2:19
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
I have heard people say before that they don’t think someone is saved because of the way they act or live. Others have said they must be a Christian because they are a good person or are always in church. What we have to understand is that the only person that we can really say is saved or not without a doubt is ourselves. Many people have great testimonies, say the right thing and live a godly life– can we really know? We can only trust in what a person says that they have believed to know whether they are saved or not. It is not our job to have to know, we hear a person’s testimony we would testify that they are saved. The only one who knows if a person is truly justified and has eternal life is God himself. The one thing we can be sure of is that “the Lord knoweth them that are his.” It is through a belief in the truth of the gospel that a person receives eternal life; can a person know a persons heart, and can they know if they have believed the gospel or not? There is no way for us to know, and it is not up to us to know, because God knows who has believed the gospel or not. When I meet someone, I don’t know if they are saved for not, so I first consider them lost until I hear a testimony of what they have believed in and from there we can fellowship as members of the body of Christ.
Rejoicing in Grace,
Keith
