Genesis 15:6

Genesis 15:6

And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

What did a person have to do to be justified? According to Genesis 15:6, all a person needed to do was “believe” in the LORD. The controversy that I have dealt with the JW’s on is James 2 and the fact that they add works to our salvation. They go to James and pull one verse out of context to make their point, but yet in the same chapter James quotes this passage. There was not any question with James that Abraham was not only the father of Israel, but the father of faith had to nothing but believe. He believed what God had told him, and God justified him. The message that was given to him was different than the message given to us, but it is still an issue of receiving the message by faith that justifies a man.
